In a season which has been filled with a lack of resolve, professionalism and effort, Rangers FC have resultantly failed to make any substantial impact this campaign. With their arch rivals, Celtic, flying high, the Glasgow-based outfit had to deal with yet another setback as Mark Warburton ended the association with the club recently.
It has been the players in their ranks who have failed to cater to the demands of the club and here are three players who should be axed in the summer.
Phillipe Senderos
The player who once plied his trade for a massive club like Arsenal is finding Scottish Premiership a tough nut to crack: such has been the downfall, with age of course, for Phillipe Senderos. Having signed by Warburton to beef his central defensive options, even the debut of the 32-year-old’s career for Rangers showed signs of bad omen as he was sent off in the 5-1 thrashing the Gers suffered at the hands of Celtic early in the season and frankly speaking, the catastrophe it brought is yet to be nullified.
In the modern-day football, where strikers with fearsome pace ply their trade, the Swiss international barely possesses the qualities to deter their endeavours. His own demons include the constant lack of pace, inability to show fighting spirit and his positional sense has gone haywire and there is hardly any reason why Rangers would prefer to keep him in their ranks beyond this season.
Martyn Waghorn
Finding the back of the net has been a major cause of concern for the Light Blues and Martyn Waghorn hasn’t really been of much help, scoring merely 7 goals in the Ladbrokes Premiership this season. The 27-year-old had a torrid start this campaign, and throughout, he has been missing a lot of easy opportunities, finding it troublesome to convert the crosses delivered from the flanks.
The summer transfer window is likely to see a new manager who would want proven attackers, and thus, it is seemingly likely that Waghorn would be shown the exit route of the Ibrox Stadium.
Rob Kiernan
Rob Kiernan has been one of the weakest links to be targeted by the opponents the Rangers have faced. The Teddy Bears have huge issues to solve in the summer with respect to their defensive setup and the 26-year-old hasn’t helped even the slightest.
The former Wigan Athletic defender seems to be absolutely bereft of confidence and has shown glimpses of a rookie throughout the season. Moreover, his abject outings has made the Rangers faithful dislike him, particularly after a horrible 4-1 loss at the hands of Hearts at Tynecastle and it would make perfect sense if Rangers get rid of him in the summer.
