Ronaldo Koeman hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Wayne Rooney making a return to Everton. The 31-year-old has been linked with his former club for quite a while.
The England international has won every trophy available in England with Manchester United. Sir Alex Ferguson signed the player as a teenager from the Toffees for £27m and he went on to become the highest ever goal scorer for United surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton’s record when he scored a stoppage-time free kick against Stoke City to secure a point for the Red Devils.
The United captain hasn’t been consistent in terms of form and as a result, he has been left on the bench. Mourinho has been using the 35-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic who has proved to be a bargain buy for them. Rooney made his debut in 2002 for Everton and Koeman thinks a move back to his boyhood club would be a boost to them.
“I still think Wayne Rooney is playing at a high level and he made a good choice staying at Manchester United and in the Premier League,
“He still has two or three years in front of him to play at the highest level. What will happen at the end of the season, I do not know? In my opinion he’s one of the players who can make Everton stronger than they are now.
“It’s all about what the players likes, what Manchester United need to do and we are not involved in that project. Every player who we feel can make the team stronger is welcome at Everton.”
