After starting the season on a low, Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has once again gained his momentum. The midfielder was a possible transfer prospect last winter when Chelsea boss Antonio Conte had preferred Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kante in the midfield and the club was having an unstoppable run.
However, the 29-year-old has been in the sizzling form of late and Chelsea seems to have found the lost chemistry of Costa and Fabregas that won them the title in the 2014-15 season. The former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder has bagged three goals and seven assists in 17 appearances so far out of which 11 were from the bench. Fabregas starred in Chelsea’s latest win over Swansea City with a goal and an assist, picking up the man of the match award in the process.
While he has flashed back into Conte’s plans, he has also attracted interests from other clubs and reportedly Italian giants AC Milan, who tried to acquire the Spain international on loan last summer now want to buy him at the season’s end. AC Milan have new wealthy Chinese owners now and Fabregas’s impressive form has encouraged them to go all the way for him.
Although he still has two years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea could be lured by any huge sum Milan has to offer. Here are 3 alternatives the Blues can consider signing if Fabregas decides to leave.
Adrien Rabiot
The highly-rated French international has been one of PSG’s best player so far. He has everything with PSG- four Ligue 1 titles, the Coupe de France twice and the Coupe de la Ligue three times. His passing has been flawless for a 21-year-old and his dribbling abilities were up for exhibition against PSG’s domination over Barcelona in their Champions League fixture.
Rabiot can easily be Fabregas’ replacement and his work rate makes him a level up in Chelsea’s midfield.
Radja Nainngolan
A midfielder Conte greatly admires, he has been Chelsea’s target for a long time. A beast in the midfield Nainngolan is known for his brute strength and brilliant technique.
The Belgian scored two absolutely stunning goals in AS Roma’s last 3-1 win over Inter Milan. A perfect option for the Chelsea midfield, which relies on winning the ball and passing it upfront with as much precision as possible.
Isco
The Real Madrid man is struggling to land a regular first team place under Zinedine Zidane, despite some impressive displays this season. The 24-year-old can be deadly in the attacking third with his incisive passing and dribbling skills.
He had left James Rodriguez on the bench for the most part of the season with his performances but now with Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic blending well, he should consider a move elsewhere.
