Leeds United are considering a move for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Rob Hunt. The defender is currently plying his trade at Oldham Athletic on a season-long loan.
The 21-year-old has impressed with the League One side who were struggling in the relegation zone. The inclusion of the defender has helped the club record three back to back consecutive clean sheets. Oldham played a goalless draw with Millwall and are currently two points clear off the relegation zone.
Basically a right back, the youngster can also be deployed on the other side of the defence as well. He came through the Brighton academy and burst into the first team earlier this season. The defender signed a new contract with the club which will keep him at the club till 2018.
With Bruno being the first choice right back for manager Chris Hughton, the club sent the player to have some first team game time which could be a huge step towards his development.
Leeds United are currently one of the favourites (through playoffs) to get promoted to the Premier League next season and if they do manage a promotion, Monk needs to reshape his defence. With doubts hovering over Charlie Taylor’s future, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the ongoing season, Monk has targeted the player.
Bournemouth have also expressed their interest in the player. The Cherries already have Charlie Daniels and Tyrone Mings in their ranks and could make an approach.
Hunt has impressed in the League One and has started the last six games for Oldham Athletic. It is very unlikely that Hunt is going to take a jump to the starting lineup for the Seagulls next season which could tempt him to make a move out from the club. Monk is in the urgent need of a fullback and would love to have him in the ranks of Leeds United.
