Thomas Tuchel’s men extended their winning run to two games when they registered their second consecutive 3:0 victories in a row against Freiburg on Saturday. Struggling Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice after Sokratis’ go-ahead goal in the 13th minute. The win keeps Borussia Dortmund intact in the title race (barely), trailing second-placed Leipzig by eight points. Here is the Borussia Dortmund player ratings in their substantial win over the men from the Black Forest.
The BEST And The WORST Borussia Dortmund Players Rated In Their Win Over Freiburg
Roman Burki (7.5/10): Reacted extremely well to Freiburg’s quickfire shots in the first half. Made three crucial saves overall to deny his former club from scoring. A very well earned clean sheet for the Swiss goalkeeper.
Lukasz Piszczek (6.5/10): Was deployed as the right centre back. The Polish defender had a decent game in defence for Dortmund but one would say, he was a little too inactive compared to the other players in the team.
Sokratis (8.5/10): Literally a giant in defence, Sokratis combated with the likes of Nils Petersen and Max Philip extremely well. He also showed terrific composure to head home a cross from Raphael Guerreiro early on in the game.
Marc Bartra (8.5/10): Had the job of keeping the talented Freiburg winger Vincenzo Grifo at bay, which he did exceptionally well. Bartra was also tremendous in Dortmund’s buildup play, and at times got forward and utilised his laser passes to good effect.
Julian Weigl (7.5/10): Weigl was looking very composed in the middle. Confident in his passing and distribution, the young German midfielder formed a vital part in Borussia Dortmund’s midfield domination.
Erik Durm (6/10): Arguably the worst player for Dortmund in the game. Durm featured as a right midfielder, where he was pretty decent, often running in behind the defence, causing opposition lines to get unsettled. However, his crosses were pretty poor and he was (almost) fruitless inside the penalty box.
Gonzalo Castro (8.5/10): He was all over the pitch against Freiburg. Completing most passes(103) and having more touches(114) than any other player on the field. Castro has been in fine form in the past few weeks, and it looks as if the former Bayer midfielder is going to be an important part for the rest of the campaign.
Ousmane Dembele (9/10): Was the one causing most havoc for the opposition. Dembele was in the groove, using his pace, determination and skills to completely outclass Freiburg defenders. Completed a whopping eight dribbles, more than any other player. The French wunderkind looks to be a fine asset for the Bundesliga.
Marco Reus (9/10): Reus was somewhat looking to be back in his own self against Freiburg. He was dictating the tempo of Dortmund’s offensive game, his combination with Guerrerio proved as a killer duo which helped Dortmund dismantle Christian Streich’s men. It was his exception run which resulted in the second goal in the second half.
Raphael Guerreiro (9.5/10): Easily the best player in the game, Guerreiro’s skill-set turned into a horror show for Freiburg. His smart movements, clever passing set the tempo up for the likes of Marco Reus and Ousmane Dembele. His free kick found Sokratis for the opener.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (8.5/10): Missed three or four big chances in the first half before putting the ball home for his 18th goal of the season. He followed it up with another one few mins later, to make it 3:0 and his 19th of the season. These two goals will surely increase the confidence of the Gabonese International.
