Everton continued their good run of form in the league by defeating Sunderland at home. The same cannot be said for the opposition who have had a horrible run of games. While the score says otherwise, Everton escaped an equaliser thanks to the crossbar and their second goal after that sealed the game. David Moyes and his team continue their difficult battle against relegation. However, as it stands, relegation seems likely. We take a look at how the Everton players fared in the home win.

Had to watch for most of the game. Survived a scare nonetheless.

Was brilliant going forward. Had a great ball delivered for Gueye to score from.

Ensured no-nonsense followed a determined Sunderland offence. Keep things composed

Managed to handle everything Sunderland had to offer.

Could’ve done better while dealing with Januzaj

Had a good game with brilliant interceptions. The key reason for stability in midfield.

Had a fantastic game after his goal. Kept running at the opposition.

Will be gutted to have hit the post denying a possibly good goal.
Lookman – 6
Could’ve done much better but didn’t really help the team
Barkley – 6.5
His inconsistency can be unnerving. He could’ve scored. Needs to have more of an effect on the games.
Lukaku – 7.5
Racked up another goal for the season. Would’ve expected more but the men alongside him didn’t do much either.
Mirallas – 7
Was a bit sloppy at times, especially with the miss but did a great job in assisting for the second goal.
Valencia – 6
Did okay as a substitute but wasn’t really effective otherwise
McCarthy – 6.5
Did what was told but didn’t really have much time to impress.
Conclusion
All in all, Everton had a decent game but the standards shown weren’t necessarily great. It might prove to be a problem against stronger opponents. The upcoming opponents of Everton i.e. Tottenham will be a different level altogether. The wingers will have to deal with the likes of Walker and Rose which won’t be an easy task. Should Everton sort their issues, they can prove to be of some trouble, else we could see a dominant performance by Tottenham!
