Garry Neville admits he wants Wayne Rooney to stay at Manchester United. The Red Devils captain has been linked heavily with a move to China.
Rooney’s future has been the subject of speculation recently as an unnamed club have offered him an enormous deal to leave Old Trafford. The 31-year old has fallen in the pecking order under Jose Mourinho who has been using Zlatan Ibrahimović, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial ahead of him.
The Chinese transfer market is still open and there is a slight possibility of him moving to the Far East. If rumours are to be believed, his agent is currently in China negotiating a deal for his client. But Neville who knows Rooney very closely thinks United still wants Rooney.
“I’d like to think Wayne Rooney would stay at Manchester United.
“It’s strange timing – the [English] transfer window over and yet this debate when there’s still two months of the season to go. That seems odd. There’s still a contribution to be made and many trophies to be played for and won at United.
“I’ve known Wayne for a long time but I haven’t spoken to him; I’m waiting to see what happens but the timing seems odd when United need their squad.
“I can also see the other side of it that if Wayne’s unhappy and doesn’t want to sit on the bench, maybe there would be a move. End of the season, I could maybe see something but why now? I’m not sure.”
