In a major setback to Arsenal, Santi Cazorla has been ruled out for the season. The Spanish midfielder was supposed to be back in March but has suffered another setback.
Cazorla was last seen playing against Arsenal’s 6-0 hammering of Ludogorets where he was forced to hobble off from the ground after an injury to his ankle.
The former Malaga star had gone under the knife to cure his Achilles tendon and now the wait has been prolonged to August.
Cazorla had been a vital part of Arsene Wenger’s plan and is very popular among the players. Despite being injured for almost three months the midfielder recently signed a one-year extension with the club.
Wenger hoped to get the player back but now has to spend the remainder of the season without him although he has a number of midfielders with as options which include Mohamed Elneny, Granit Xhaka and Francis Coquelin.
