Asmir Begovic has said Diego Costa’s goal against Wolves in the FA Cup will help him to recover his form in the Premier League. Chelsea defeated the Championship side 2-0 as goals from Pedro and Diego Costa secured their way to the quarter-final.
Costa hasn’t been able to score in the last few matches and this goal will definitely be a morale booster for him. The Spaniard had the worst string of matches as he found the net only once in the last six outings. He was linked with a move to a Chinese Club and also had a row with Antonio Conte.
The Spaniard’s goalscoring drought has helped Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku to surpass him who has 17 and 16 goals respectively.
Begovic said, “Yes, it’s good for him. He’s had a couple of tough, frustrating games. It wasn’t for the lack of trying but his previous goal had been against Hull [on January 22].
“He is obviously a talisman, a leader — someone who leads from the front. He’s crucial to us so it’s great that he’s back firing and hopefully that will lift his confidence again and he will kick on. Do we need a confident Costa for the run-in? Yes, of course. Any successful team has to have a top goalscorer and that’s what he is. He leads by example.”
