Everton are a team, who despite being in a crucial period of transition, haven’t collapsed. A lot of talk with very little output was the only legacy left by Roberto Martinez in his brief spell at the Goodison Park.
But the scenario at the Merseyside turned upside down and is lighting up once again owing to their stupendous form under the tutelage of Ronald Koeman. They have built their arsenal pretty well as they look forward to clinching their ticket to the Champions League or Europa League very soon under the Dutchman’s supervision.
The former Southampton boss has jotted down some shrewd deals, bolstering his side’s frontiers with the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Enner Valencia and Ademola Lookman making an instant impact for Everton and not to forget that he has managed to stay averse of being tempted to sell their sensational striker Romelu Lukaku, who has steered them by catering to the striking needs of the club with sheer professionalism. However, with the three frontiers pretty much sorted, he apparently has turned his attention towards strengthening his goalkeeping slot now.
In pursuit of the same, it is being reported that the Toffees are doing the homework to lure Leicester City’s no. 1 goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in the summer transfer window. The 30-year-old has drawn a lot of admiration from Koeman and stands as one of the prioritised items in his wish-list and would launch a bid to sign him after this season.
Schmeichel was an irreplaceable element in Leicester City’s title-winning side last term when the Foxes registered a fairytale-like campaign to clinch the league silverware but considering the stagnancy and slump of form which Claudio Ranieri’s troops are currently undergoing and the prospective relegation dogfight they are set to be indulged in, the Danish stopper might look for an outlet next season and Everton should tempt him to leave King Power Stadium.
In his injury-blighted campaign this term, he has accumulated 17 appearances for Leicester City this season, bagging 4 clean sheets and making 3.29 saves per game and considering the quality he would bring, Koeman’s interest in him makes perfect sense. Besides, their second choice man between the sticks in the shape of Joel Robles, who performed well in the absence of first-choice goalkeeper Marteen Stekelenburg, has recently turned himself into a rebel. He is reluctant to sign a new contract, thus implying that the Toffees would dip in the transfer window to provide a huge competition for the gloves to replace Robles.
