Leeds United manager Garry Monk has expressed his satisfaction having drawn the match against Ipswich Town. Leeds bounced back from a goal down to clinch a 1-1 draw.
Freddie Sears give the home side an early lead as he met Grant Ward’s cross to give the Blues a 1-0 lead around the nine-minute mark. The result could have been worse had Jonas Knudsen found his shot on the target.
The Whites restored parity through Stuart Dallas just before the break. Monk just made one change from the 2-1 win over Bristol City as Kemar Roofe made the way for Dallas. The draw kept their place intact in the fifth place with 58 points and they are seven points clear of Norwich City who lost to Burton Albion 2-1.
The 37 year old boss said that they reacted very late but he is happy with the draw as they are now unbeaten in two matches. “It was what we expected – a very tough, physical game. I don’t think the conditions helped but we started really well.
“Their first attack, they got a goal, and I don’t think we reacted well. We invited a few more mistakes than we usually do.
“[After the break] it was difficult for both teams to create. Both teams defended exceptionally well.
“If you can’t win, you make sure you don’t lose – and we’re putting an unbeaten run together.”
Both the teams had their chances but failed to convert them. Leeds United had the most of the possession but couldn’t utilise them properly. David McGoldrick wasted a number of gilt-edged chances to put his team ahead.
The draw might be looking not an ideal result but it could be a very important one in terms of Leeds United who weren’t at the best of form before the last two games. The Championship side are eying a promotion and these type of results sometimes give the team a morale booster during the long campaign.
