Jose Mourinho has taken a dig at Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp. Without indicating anyone, the Portuguese said that he never threw the FA Cup away.
Mourinho had a bizarre memory of the FA Cup when Newcastle United defeated Chelsea in 2005. Patrick Kluivert scored the only goal for the Magpies as the Blues crashed out of the competition.
Mourinho fielded a weak eleven as the Blues had to face Barcelona in the Champions League and Liverpool in the League Cup final in the following week. Incidentally, they went on to win both the matches.
Liverpool similarly fielded a weaker team against Wolves in the FA Cup fourth round. Klopp made nine changes in the team but couldn’t save his side from losing the match 2-1.
Mourinho said, “Maybe we don’t have as many managers in England with that culture as we should.
“Maybe we foreign managers, not everybody studies and understands the culture of this country. It’s because of attitude. Because you think it’s easy – and it’s not easy.
“With Chelsea, I lost against a League One or League Two team, but I never threw it away.
“So I always try to go serious. I like Wembley. I like the FA Cup.”
