Everton Now In Pole Position To Sign Genoa Defender From Serie A: Do The Toffees Need Him?

Reports say that Everton now stand at the front of the queue to sign Genoa right-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy this summer. According to a report by Calciomercato IT, relayed by Sport Witness, the Merseyside club expressed concrete interest during the January window.

They rivalled West Ham, Inter Milan, and Juventus for his signature. No club met the former Arsenal player’s valuation last month. However, journalists expect things to change significantly by July.

Speaking to Radio Napoli Centrale, Genoa insider Pino Brenzini explained what is happening. TuttoNapoli relayed his comments. Brenzini confirmed that Inter, Juventus, and Premier League sides held discussions regarding a fee of €16-17m (£13-14m).

Crucially, he identified Everton as the team in pole position for next season. He noted that Genoa executives prefer selling their assets abroad rather than strengthening Serie A rivals.

“We’ve heard some talk between Inter, Juventus, and the Premier League, involving a fee of €16-17m.”

Why Norton-Cuffy Fits the Bill at Everton?

David Moyes’ return to the Everton dugout has brought a renewed focus on defensive solidity and athletic full-backs. This makes Norton-Cuffy a sensible target. The 22-year-old England U21 international offers exactly the kind of energy the Blues require on the right flank. The club missed out on Emil Holm, who joined Juventus on deadline day. Because of this, the hierarchy views recruiting a specialist right-back as a top priority.

Norton-Cuffy has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Italy. He has played 21 times in Serie A this season while contributing one goal and one assist. Beyond the raw numbers, his performances highlight a player who excels at carrying the ball upfield.

He uses his pace and power to break lines. This skillset mirrors the profile Moyes often looks for. It blends physical strength with tactical discipline. His previous loan spells in the Championship with Millwall, Coventry City, and Rotherham United also give him valuable experience in the English game. This helps him settle in faster.

Financially, the proposed €16-17m fee is a price Everton can afford. It helps them balance their summer budget. Getting a young, high-potential defender at this price point allows the club to spend money elsewhere. If Norton-Cuffy continues to improve in Genoa, Everton fans might soon see a new engine powering their right flank.
