Tottenham Hotspur Are Eyeing A Move For This Crystal Palace Forward: Good Fit For Spurs?

In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta. It is understood that Spurs would have to rival AC Milan in the race to land the French striker this year.

Mateta’s Impressive Form In The Premier League

Mateta has enjoyed a decent run of form at the London club as he has put in a series of productive displays for them in the final third. The French talent has banged in ten goals and secured two assists in 34 matches for the Eagles this season across multiple competitions.

The 28-year-old has led the line well and deserves credit for averaging 2.55 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has kept 48.1% of his attempts on target (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the London club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, Spurs could potentially sign him on a cut-price deal at the end of this campaign.

Is Mateta A Good Fit For Tottenham Hotspur?

Mateta is proficient at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in on target. He has got the eye to create the odd chance for his teammates on the offensive end of the field.

The French talent is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. Mateta can even contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. Standing at 1.92m, he can use his strong frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his side inside the opponent’s half.

We can expect Mateta to add more firepower to Tottenham boss Thomas Frank’s attack. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming years.

At 28, Mateta is playing in his prime, which makes him a decent fit for Spurs to consider this year. He will also help the North London club compete across all fronts in the future. With all things considered, Mateta would be a great fit for the English club to pursue at the end of this campaign. He is already familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Tottenham.
