Jose Mourinho has refused to admit that Manchester United are too reliable on Zlatan Ibrahimović. The Swedish striker netted a hat-trick as United thrashed Saint- Etienne 3-0 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League.
Zlatan opened the scoring with a deflected free-kick at just the quarter hour mark. He then scored a double to give United an edge in the two-legged affair. This is his 23rd goal of this season for the Red Devils.
The 35-year-old has appeared in 34 of United’s 39 matches and has been the preferable choice ahead of Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford. He signed a one-year deal but has the option to extend it for a further year. Mourinho denies the fact that Zlatan is the most important player in his team.
“He’s important I don’t want to say the most important.
“Obviously he’s important, he shows that even when he doesn’t score goals.
“To score a hat-trick is a nice thing – even for a guy like him who has scored so many hat-tricks.”
