Manchester United have reportedly had a pre-contract agreement with Benfica defender Victor Lindelof. The Swede was on the verge of joining United but the move couldn’t happen as there were some contractual obligations.
United didn’t sign a single player in the winter transfer window although they have been linked with a number of players. United did have a fee agreed with Benfica for the Swedish defender but later the deal failed to materialise.
Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo stood tall in the United defence for a brief part of the season as Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling were injured for a longer period. The duo have been excellent for the Red Devils but Mourinho wants to bring some solidity to the defence. The 22-year old again gave a brilliant performance as Benfica defeated Borussia Dortmund 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League first leg of the last 16.
AS Roma are also one of the interested parties. Kostas Manolas is expected to leave the club at the end of this season and should they receive a big amount for him with which they will definitely try to hijack Lindelof’s rumoured move to United.
