Sunderland Are Locked In A Three-Way Battle For This Brazilian Midfielder: Good Option For Le Bris?

According to Friday’s print edition, Turkish news outlet Sabah are claiming that Sunderland are locked in a three-way battle for Galatasaray midfielder Gabriel Sara. It has been mentioned that the Black Cats would have to rival Everton and Fulham in the race to land the Brazilian talent.

Sara’s Impressive Form In Turkish Football

Sara has enjoyed a good run of form at the Turkish club as he has been responsible for putting in a run of eye-catching displays for them in the middle of the park. The 26-year-old has banged in two goals and grabbed two assists in 25 appearances for Galatasaray this season across all competitions.

The Brazilian talent has anchored the midfield with conviction and deserves some credit for winning ten tackles and making seven interceptions for the Turkish club in the Super Lig (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at Galatasaray will expire in the summer of 2029, which could make it tough for the Black Cats to win the race for his services on a cut-price deal this year.

Is Sara A Good Option For Sunderland Boss Régis Le Bris?

Sara is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his team when defending inside his half. He is full of energy and running at the centre of the park and can chip in by scoring and creating a few important goals for his team from midfield.

The Brazilian sensation is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as an attacking midfielder if required. However, only time will tell whether he can adapt to the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League.

We can expect Sara to bring more quality and depth to Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris’s midfield department. He is good enough to help the Black Cats compete across all fronts in the coming years.

At 26, Sara has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a great option for the Wearside outfit to consider this January or at the end of this campaign. However, Le Bris has to give the player some time to settle into life in England before he can get the best out of him at the Stadium of Light.
