Sunderland are keeping tabs on Sheffield Wednesday forward Bailey Cadamarteri as they weigh up attacking reinforcements ahead of the next transfer window. The Black Cats are understood to be exploring options to bolster their frontline with a young, mobile striker who fits their recruitment model, and Cadamarteri’s profile is seen as a strong match. While there are not expected to be too many dealings in this window, one outgoing that’s probably going to happen is Arthur Masuaku although there is a massive transfer U-turn no one saw coming.
Young Striker on the Rise
Cadamarteri, 20, came through the Sheffield Wednesday academy and signed his first professional deal with the Owls in 2022 after a prolific spell at youth level. He made his league debut in November 2023 and quickly caught the eye with a string of energetic displays, earning a new longterm contract and the EFL Young Player of the Month award after an impressive December that included key goals and an assist.
Loan Spell and Development
Last season, the Jamaican forward spent time on loan at Lincoln City in League One, where regular senior minutes helped accelerate his development. He produced a solid return in front of goal, scoring five times in 23 league outings and averaging 0.4 goals per 90 minutes, underlining his potential as an emerging finisher at EFL level.
Why Sunderland are Interested
Sunderland’s data-led recruitment has consistently targeted young forwards with resale value, and Cadamarteri’s blend of physical presence, work rate and penalty box instincts fits that brief.
Sheffield Wednesday are expected to face further interest in the striker, with his current market valuation estimated in the low seven figure range, although any formal approach would likely depend on Sunderland moving players out or securing funds from other deals. For now, Cadamarteri remains under contract at Hillsborough, but his situation will be one to watch as clubs firm up their January plans.
The player is obviously interested and with Sheffield Wednesday facing imminent relegation, there is a clock on getting the best deal possible for the Championship club.
