West Ham United are looking to sign a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window. According to reports, manager Nuno Espirito Santo is eyeing the Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa. He has been a reliable player at Molineux for several years, and that’s why West Ham view him as an upgrade for their squad.
West Ham are interested in Jose Sa
Summer signing Mads Hermansen has not performed as well as expected. Meanwhile, the club has long viewed Alphonse Areola as a good backup goalkeeper, not a full-time starter. This is why West Ham feel the need for stability in this position.
Journalist Wayne Weyssey reports that Nuno is planning to bring in Jose Sa from Wolves. His position at Wolves has also become somewhat uncertain recently, as Sam Johnstone has stepped up his challenge for the spot. Therefore, Wolves may consider an offer for him in January.

The Portuguese goalkeeper will also be looking to play regularly. He knows that if he remains on the bench at Wolves, it could be more difficult to secure a place in the Portugal squad for the 2026 World Cup. Therefore, starting a new chapter at the London Stadium could be a better option for the 32-year-old.
Nuno’s long-standing relationship with Wolves could also facilitate this deal. West Ham are keen to seize this opportunity, as they need an experienced and stable goalkeeper.
Will he be a good signing for the Hammers?
Signing Jose Sa could be a wise move for the Hammers. The team has long lacked reliable performance in the goalkeeper position. Hermansen’s form has not inspired confidence, and Areola has always been viewed mostly as a backup by the club.
Sa, who has played over 140 Premier League matches, would prove to be a strong and experienced option. He could immediately provide stability to the team and offer better security to the defence. This signing could be very beneficial for the club now and in the coming months.
