Barcelona Have Set Their Sights On This Talented Defender: Good Option For Flick?

In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Barcelona have set their sights on Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio. It has been mentioned that the Catalan club are eyeing a move to bring the Portuguese centre-back to the Nou Camp next year.

Inacio’s Impressive Form In Portuguese Football

Inacio has enjoyed a good run of form at the Portuguese club this season as he has put in a run of solid displays at the heart of their backline. The 24-year-old has featured in 16 matches for Sporting in this campaign so far, securing one assist in all competitions.

The Portuguese talent has given a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field and deserves credit for making 19 tackles, 12 blocks, ten interceptions and 36 clearances in the Liga Portugal. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the back after completing 90% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Portuguese club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, Barcelona could potentially snap him up on a cut-price deal at the end of this campaign.

Will Inacio Be A Good Option For Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick?

Inacio is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball as well.

Standing at 1.86m, the Portuguese talent can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if Barcelona manage to get him on board next year.

We can expect Inacio to bring more quality and depth to Barca boss Hansi Flick’s defence. He is good enough to compete for a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp.

At 24, Inacio has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a good option for the Catalan club to consider this January or at the end of this season. However, Flick has to give him some time to adjust to life at Barcelona before he can get the best out of him.
