On an evening where every player of Manchester United had to step up and deliver, they did it. Manchester United absolutely cruised to a victory over Walter Mazzarri’s Watford stretching their unbeaten run to 16 games in the league which is the highest unbeaten run in a top flight anywhere across Europe currently. Goals from Anthony Martial and Juan Mata set Old Trafford alight as the hosts marched forward charring the hornets. Here are the United player ratings.
1) GK: David De Gea – 7/10
Made a flying save to prevent Zarate’s free-kick but otherwise, had a silent game and pitched in to play the ball out from the back. A clean-sheet is indeed a positive.
2) RB: Antonio Valencia – 7/10
Subdued tonight but impressed in the physical side of the game.
3) CB: Eric Bailly – 8/10
Deserved an eight for an outstanding performance like this. Physically and mentally he outclassed the Watford forwards and bullied them. What a signing by Mourinho!
4) CB: Smalling – 7/10
Captain for the day and he had a good game. Kept Zarate silent even though the forward fought hard. Brought in his physical side of the play to top off things.
5) LB: Daley Blind – 7/10
He might lack pace but he never allows players to bully him. Tackling was spot on and his game reading ability was superb as usual.
6) CM: Ander Herrera – 8/10
Has become an indispensable part of this team and he’s having a wonderful season. Interceptions, tackles and game reading ability was portrayed impressively.
7) CM: Paul Labile Pogba – 7/10
He’s having silent games but yet effective ones. Showed good strength to wade off the players and won the midfield battle.
8) LM: Anthony Martial – 9/10
He was the best player on the pitch tonight without any doubt. He ripped apart the left flank of Watford, making unchallenged runs and posing a threat at every given instance. While his assist set the platform for United’s opener, his goal killed the game off. Man of the match!
9) CAM: Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 7.5/10
Showed good work rate and was tremendous. He seems to have finally settled in England. It’s a treat to watch when he gets going just like he did today.
10) RM: Juan Mata – 8.5/10
Terrific on the night and kept ticking all the positive boxes and rallied the team forward.
11) Zlatan Ibrahimović – 6/10
The only player that was a bit of a letdown. Wasted many chances and his passing didn’t really look good. Needs to improve his game for the coming fixtures.
