Everton and Hull City have had contrasting seasons so far. While the Toffees are in a sublime touch and are placed just below the current big six in the top tier of English football, the Tigers are living dangerously and have been caught flirting with relegation for quite some time now. The downfall into the clutches of the second tier will undoubtedly be a loss of stature, but won’t the risk of losing their key men be another unwelcome upheaval?
Abel Hernández is reportedly a player who is going to be wanted commodity in the summer transfer window. A bidding war between Everton and West Bromwich Albion is being predicted by the media. Hernández scored 21 goals in the Championship last season which helped Hull City crawl back to the Premier League, but the tides of time have been galloping against him so far this term.
The 26-year-old has been struggling with injuries which have disrupted his season to a major extent. With 14 league appearances under his belt, he has mustered merely 3 goals and has had his hand in making one. To worsen his touch of productivity, Marco Silva’s side have been an underperforming unit, as a result of which Hernández has been getting very little support from his teammates.
Considering how valuable he still is, there would absolutely be no doubt that clubs across Europe as well as from the lucrative ventures from the Far East will vie for his signature. Is his stay at the KCOM Stadium a doubt?
Prior to a move to Hull City, Hernández plied his trade in Serie A with Palermo, wherefrom he made recognition for himself. Everton are assembling a sensational side and would look forward to strengthen their forward line in the summer to make a charge for Champions League berths, whereas West Bromwich Albion would want to fill the void created by the departure of Saido Berahino in the January transfer window.
More importantly, his contract expires in the summer, which implies that the two clubs would battle it among themselves as to who bags the bragging rights and gets hold of a player who has proved his intrinsic value for many seasons. But then, he needs to amend his ways and get rid of the inconsistency in the next few months to ensure that he gets good offers on his plate.
