Jose Mourinho has claimed his style of play is slowly becoming popular. The Portuguese is known for his pragmatic tactics which have been termed boring more often than not.
Manchester United thrashed Leicester City 3-0 in the last match. Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimović and Juan Mata were on target as United humiliated the defending champions.
Mourinho was criticised for his negative style of football during his reign at Chelsea. The Portuguese won two Premier League titles with the Blues but they didn’t necessarily play the eye-catching brand of football. But he seems to have changed his playing style with the Red Devils no longer playing that old fashioned ‘score and defence’ strategy.
He was sacked after Chelsea lost nine matches in their opening 16 games in the last campaign. Chelsea are currently topping the table while United are in sixth place and are closing inch towards a place in the top four.
He said, “My team is playing very well but for many, many years in my career, especially in this country, when my teams were ruthless and when they were phenomenal defensively and very good in the counter-attack, I listened week after week… it was not enough, in spite of winning the title three times.
“It looks like this season, to be phenomenal defensively and be good at counter attack is art, so it’s a big change in England.
“I don’t want to change the profile of our play. This is the way we want to play. I don’t want to be the manager of a team that plays very well, creates chances and doesn’t win matches. We need to score goals and today we did.”
