“I’m not leaving. The show goes on” – Leo DiCaprio playing Jordan Belfort
For months, the fleet-footed Mousa Dembele entertained the Celtic fans at Glasgow and when Chelsea supposedly came calling with a hefty bid, there was an obvious air of doubt in the Celtic fans’ minds. However, Dembele himself put all those doubts aside with his tweet and reassured them that he’ll be staying to amuse them for a few more months at least.
Dembele’s incredible form wasn’t just restricted to the Scottish league as THAT overhead kick against Manchester City in the Champions League made the football fraternity stand up and take notice. The talented attacker rose to prominence at Fulham and there were quite a few clubs who wanted him at the time only for him to move to Celtic.
The level-headed Frenchman wanted first team football more than anything else to continue his impressive development and under Brendan Rodgers, who despite being sacked by Liverpool, was still one of the best British coaches around.
Celtic have been dominant in the domestic circuit this season and are targeting an invincible treble which is a reality considering how good a squad they possess. Having won a Cup already, Rodgers wants to be cast in Bronze by targeting an incredible feat and with Dembele around, he has a better chance of doing that.
Dembele and his knee today sent London into a frenzy with the supposed interest from Chelsea. People sat and took notice and many were in anticipation of the biggest transfer of an anti-climactic coming to fruition. But the abrupt nature of the report had something jarring in it and finally a few hours before the deadline was to be shut, the confirmation from none other than the man himself, put all the theories and rumours to rest.
With the hullabaloo dying down slowly, sense is starting to prevail in most of the fans now and people are actually doubting the logic behind the move, even if it was an actuality. Dembele has prospered so much under Rodgers and his main aim was to play regularly which is exactly the way he has at Glasgow.
A move to Chelsea would surely have seen him as Diego Costa’s understudy and would have made his footballing development to an abrupt end with regular football a distant dream in that set-up. Dembele is destined for greater things but now is not the time to make the big move. Not yet.
With the biggest transfer story of the day fizzing out tamely, let us have a look at the tweets which started coming in after the anti-climax.
