West Ham United have turned around their season after a drab first few months. So good has the turnaround been that even a sulking player like Dimitri Payet didn’t matter as the Hammers have managed five wins out of their last seven games.
The summer transfer window was farcical but the acquisition of Robert Snodgrass from Hull City was on spot to enhance their attacking setup. Slowly but surely, the Hammers are crawling up in the league table and are placed tenth in the league table, though there is definitely a room for improvement.
However, Slaven Bilic’s side haven’t been at their best by any means this campaign and one of the prime reasons for it has been their lack of finding the back of the net week in and week out. The attacking prowess seems to have diminished to an extent and apparently, they need to pull in a deal or two to at least add some nuclear in their attacking arsenal. Bilic doesn’t have quality nor quantity at their disposal, and frankly speaking, there is definitely a void up front in terms of a player of significant stature who can bang in the goals on a consistent basis.
Demba Ba’s name in the Hammers’ wish-list might sound surprising but makes complete sense. The 31-year-old striker was with West Ham United for four months of the 2010-11 season before Newcastle United came in to take him into their ranks. He was very successful with the Magpies, scoring 29 goals in 54 appearances for them before Chelsea lured him to Stamford Bridge.
Currently plying his trade at Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League, he is sidelined due to the horrific broken leg that he sustained last year and is still in the recovery process. At a stage where signing Brentford’s hit-man Scott Hogan isn’t panning out as expected, could the Senegal international be a good fit at West Ham United?
Premier League is a place where nothing is permanent and one can expect anything to happen at any point of time. The Hammers’ co-chairman David Sullivan had stated that there was an urge in the side to sign the veteran striker, but considering that he is still three weeks from being back on the pitch, their interest cooled down. Nonetheless, one should not be surprised if there is a late surge by West Ham United to get Ba who had been a phenomenon striker in the top tier and still has the cutting edge to pave his way in Bilic’s starting line-up.
