There is hardly anything doubt that Queens Park Rangers have been terribly poor in the ongoing campaign of the Sky Bet Championship. Placed 17th in the league table with merely 9 wins to show from 28 outings, the loss at the hands of Burton Albion left them with yet another wound to heal as their prospects of getting back to the Premier League is getting undone by their helpless performances. The Hoops have themselves to blame, but then, with the transfer window open, they have managed to strengthen their squad.
QPR completed the signing of Luke Freeman from Bristol City on a three-and-a-half-year deal for a fee of £300,000 to bolster their attacking setup which has been a major cause of concern for them. Freeman has time and again drawn comparisons with Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas owing to the way he plies his trade. The 24-year-old would certainly help Ian Holloway to inject elements such as flair, precision, attacking tooth and class. The R’s were in a dire need of a wide man and the former Robins’ midfielder certainly ticks a lot of boxes.
Signing Freeman implies that Holloway has someone in his ranks who can be engineered anywhere in the attacking zone, including in the striker’s slot. Signed from Stevenage in 2014, he has in the good books of pundits due to his spectacular goals, impeccable assists and a great vision while passing the ball around.
Aggressive when surging forward and a keen contributor as far as catering to the defensive duties are concerned, he is someone who can amaze the fans with his crosses, is effective and efficient with his corners and can dribble meticulously. Let’s underline the fact that he can be used as a wing-back as well: a perfect utility player isn’t it?
Freeman has, over the years, developed his positional sense, ability to adopt himself under various circumstances and has only seen an upward trajectory in his career’s graph. To elucidate his CV further, one must not forget to mention that he is an exceptional leader as well and makes the attacking players gel together as a unit while launching forward.
Of course, the season has been pretty tough for the London-based outfit, but now that they have pulled off a spectacular deal by luring the Arsenal youth product to the Loftus Road, Holloway must look forward to building a formidable side from here on with their newcomer being at the centre of it.
