There is a jovial mood at the Elland Road and justifiably so. Garry Monk has turned the fortunes of the side and has changed their underperforming attitude head over heels by moulding the Peacocks into a unit with barely any significant loophole. One might not argue on the perception that there is something special about the bunch of players who have thrived well under the tutelage of the former Swansea City boss.
Not much time is left before the transfer window closes, so Leeds United are assessing a very gettable target in the shape of Villarreal’s Alfonso Pedraza and are plotting a move to lure him into their ranks. Despite having the requisite attacking arsenal, the Whites still need to have men at their disposal in order to ensure that their stronghold in the Sky Bet Championship rests undisturbed. The winger can very well meet their needs of adding an extra muscle as far as their attacking midfield is concerned.
Pedraza played for Segunda outfit Lugo, but Villarreal are keen to ship their youngster all the way to Yorkshire to prove his credentials (or raise his intrinsic value!) in a much more notable club. Although it would be a loan deal, Monk’s outfit will have the chance to make his move a permanent one in the summer transfer window for a fee in the vicinity of €10 million in case they break into the Premier League. In case they don’t, Pedraza is to be shipped back to Spain. Keeping it aside, will a signing like the 20-year-old attacker boost the prospects of Leeds United in the first place?
The Spanish youth international operates on the left wing and has had a great campaign in the second tier of Spanish football, banging six goals and providing eight assists. He would render much more than a mere rise in the number of players at the Elland Road, for he is a natural goal scoring winger which is quite a rare element to be found in Monk’s brigade.
Moreover, Leeds’ humiliating loss at the hands of Sutton United in the FA Cup implies that they should at least try not be over casual going into the concluding stages of the league.
