Bayern Munich were able to continue their sparkling run, by beating Bremen 2:1 in a closely fought encounter. Two first-half goals from David Alaba and Arjen Robben set the tone for a rout. However, Bremen, as in the game against Dortmund last week, came back extremely strong in the second half. Max Kruse pulled one back for the home side but the engine lacked the fuel to complete a comeback and salvage a point.
The BEST and the WORST Bayern Munich Players Rated From Their Win Vs Werder Bremen
Manuel Neuer (8/10): Got tested on few occasions, to which he responded very well by making a couple of good saves. However, there was nothing he could do about Max Kruse’s goal in the second half. Overall, Neuer had a pretty good game.
Philip Lahm (7/10): Lahm basically camped himself in the opposition half in the first 45 minutes but as Werder started to come back in the contest, the Bayern captain had to settle more for his defensive duties in the second half.
Javi Martinez (6/10): Martinez suffered throughout the game. His lack of pace made Bayern vulnerable on the counter, with the likes of Serge Gnabry lurking. Should have done better marking Kruse.
Mats Hummels (5.5/10): Another defender who struggled to cope with the pace of the Werder offensive line. At times, Hummels looked absolutely awful, especially when Bremen scored the equaliser.
David Alaba (9/10): Had a very good game. Constantly provided a threat from the left flank. His perfectly executed free-kick found the top corner, which gave the keeper no chance.
Xabi Alonso (7/10): Aging Alonso also struggled to keep midfield in tip top shape in the absence of Arturo Vidal. Often got outpaced by Thomas Delaney and Max Kruse. His passing and distribution, however, was amazing, to say the least, which gave Bayern some assurance in possession phases.
Joshua Kimmich (7/10): It was a tough game for the young German international, who had his fair share of troubles against the fiery Werder side. His deliveries from the corners were also pretty bad.
Arjen Robben (8.5/10): Even at 33 years of age, Robben is as lively as it gets. The Dutchman caused a havoc in Werder defence. His stunning strike gave Bayern the lead and also after the goal, Robben looked eager to score more.
Thomas Muller (6/10): The season under Carlo Ancelotti keeps getting worse for Thomas Muller, as he seemingly fails to get used to the playing style. Didn’t find his rhythm in the first half and unsurprisingly, failed to get on to the scoresheet.
Franck Ribery (7.5/10): It was a decent afternoon for Franck Ribery. Set up Robben’s goal in the first half. Caused terror on the left flank along with David Alaba. However, he faded as the game went on.
Robert Lewandowski (7/10): A rusty outing for the Polish International. He was marked closely by Werder defenders and wasn’t given any chances to score throughout the game.
