Leeds United are sure-shot contenders for getting themselves promoted to the top flight. Unarguably, Garry Monk stepped into the baptism of fire when he agreed to undertake the managerial reins at Elland Road but the journey has been good so far as his brigade sit pretty safe and sound inside the play-off zone. Their form has been good too but then, there are always some areas that need improving.
Besides bolstering their setup, a dramatic homecoming of their once-upon-a-time prodigal son in the shape of Fabian Delph had surfaced in the ongoing transfer window.
The 27-year-old midfielder came through the ranks of the Peacocks prior to his move to Aston Villa and eventually to Manchester City, after spending six years at the Villa Park. Despite a big money move to the blue half of Manchester in the summer of 2015, Delph hasn’t lived up to the bills and has failed miserably to cement his spot in the side.
Monk’s side still have ground to cover and to bolster their chances, they must make a thorough inspection not only to get the things going the way they are but to also see that they add fresh legs to their unit.
Leeds can boast of a jam-packed midfield having quality in the likes of Liam Bridcutt, Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips but then, having a solid commander to lead the pack would do no harm to them. The former Aston Villa star would be an immediate upgrade on the current assets the third-placed Championship side possess and can be the decisive factor for the remainder of the season and maybe even beyond that.
Delph is quick, has excellent dribbling skills, never refrains from making sharp tackles and is a dynamic box-to-box midfielder. He would offer an unprecedented vibe to the West Yorkshire based club as he injects humungous energy, tenacity and resilience in the middle of the park.
Although passing isn’t one of his strongest suits, he nullifies his drawback to a large extent with his phenomenon work-ethic and high enthusiasm. The English international has had a quite spell at Etihad Stadium, but the Whites must not back down from reacquiring the services of someone who was once an elusive figure at Elland Road.
Further, if he could be persuaded in the right manner and made understood that the changing of ships will actually help him in resurrecting his career, he might develop a second thought. Nonetheless, it is important that Monk does all he can to get this valuable midfielder to ensure that there is no dreary finish to the campaign.
