If latest reports are to be believed, Manchester United are likely to see a major transition in the very next summer as a move to China is looking very likely for United’s highest goal scorer in history, Wayne Rooney. Over the years, Rooney has become synonymous with Manchester United. His record speaks for itself but what it doesn’t highlight is the extreme passion and determination he had to win each and every match in a United jersey.
Even after his prime, his commitment was never in question. Always a thorough professional, he gave equal effort whether starting a game or when coming off the bench. He has lost his starting place and despite being the club captain, he will know the future is bleak in terms of getting enough minutes. Whenever he has got the chance, he has demonstrated his ability and will like to carry on playing for quite a while now.
While offers from China are usually looked at with scorn, this one does make a whole lot of logic for Rooney, both financially and footballing wise. His reluctance to join any other Premier League club would be respected and a change of scenery for a couple of years towards the twilight of his career is something which will attract him.
Either way, his diminishing role is being noted by the club and with Zlatan Ibrahimovic unlikely to be able to play week in, week out next year, there is a need for a high-profile signing up top.
And according to sources one of Manchester United long-term targets, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be available if Dortmund’s asking price of £68m is met with.
Although his admiration of Real Madrid is well documented, United are one of the clubs which comes very close to the stature of Los Blancos. He is ambitious and coming on board a team led by someone like Mourinho, the possible combination is deadly.
He is good with his feet and has the ability to get past opponents with quick dribbles and stepovers. He loves to take on defenders. He thrives in one-on-one situations and is an adept finisher which his 20 goals in 20 games this season proves. His pace and energy make him a dangerous candidate in times of a counterattack and he has already shown big match pedigree with goals in both Champions League games against Real Madrid.
Aubameyang will be in sync with the big money signings the Old Trafford outfit have made in recent times and he will be openly embraced by the fans.
