Liverpool opted to rest almost all of their first-team stars tonight as they travelled to the Netherlands to clash heads with PSV. It was a dead rubber fixture for the Reds who ended up losing 3-2 despite leading twice in Eindhoven.
Below are the Liverpool players rated in their 3-2 defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Caoimhín Kelleher: 6
Could have done little to stop either of the goals. Made some key stops in the closing minutes to keep the scoreline competitive.
Conor Bradley: 5
Should have done better defensively, particularly during Ricardo Pepi’s injury-time strike. Made occasional overlapping runs but lacked the edge high up the pitch.
Jarell Quansah: 6
Another below-par performance from the youngster who was comfortable playing it out from the back but looked unsettled when the home side threatened for goals. Was completely outdone by Johan Bakayoko during PSV’s first equalizer.
Kostas Tsimikas: 7
Balanced his game between defence and attack. Tried to link up with Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa down the left-hand flank.
Wataru Endo: 5.5
Lost the ball under pressure which led to PSV’s second equalizer. Was combative at times but lacked the firmness in the middle of the park.
James McConnell: 7.5
Impressive from the young midfield ace who worked extremely hard to win possession from the deep and operate in the advanced areas of the pitch.
Harvey Elliott: 7.5
Found the net to make it 2-1 from a very close range as Walter Benitez’s clearance fell favourably into the path of the Englishman. Played in multiple positions to accommodate the changes made by the Liverpool boss.
Federico Chiesa: 7
First 90 minutes for the Italian who looked sharp on the flanks with his work rate, shooting and dribbling. Won a spot-kick which was converted by Cody Gakpo and again contributed to Elliott’s goal with an initial attempt from distance.
Cody Gakpo: 7
Scored against his former club as he kept his calm while finding the net from the spot. Also played his part in the build-up of their second goal and was eventually taken off soon after the break to be replaced by Tyler Morton.
Jayden Danns: 6.5
Darwin Nunez’s illness saw the youngster spearheading the attack. Had some decent runs and showed his strength to construct attacking moves by covering a lot of ground. Made way for Amad Nallo late in the match.
Liverpool Subs Vs PSV
Tyler Morton: 6.5
Looked sharp with his timely tackles and ball-carrying attributes.
Trey Nyoni: 6
Was tidy with his passes and swift movements.
