According to a report from GiveMeSport, Real Madrid are interested in signing Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot in the January transfer window. The Spanish side sees the player as a potential long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal.
Diogo Dalot is an established player
Diogo Dalot joined Manchester United in the summer of 2018 from Porto FC. He was initially not trusted and hence, loaned out to other clubs. But things changed after Erik ten Hag came to the helm of affairs as the manager trusted him.
Dalot has established himself as a key member of the squad and remains an asset. He has already featured in 22 games this season, contributing two assists. He is averaging 1.9 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, and 1.4 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The Portuguese defender can be deployed on either wing as he is quite versatile. He is known for his physicality, strength, speed, and aerial dominance. He has good defensive traits and also possesses incredible dribbling and offensive capabilities.
Ruben Amorim wants Diogo Dalot to stay
Real Madrid are desperate to sign a right-back as Dani Carvajal is sidelined due to an injury. While the Spanish side prefer bringing Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool next summer, they are also exploring options in case the English international pen down a new contract at Anfield.
Hence, the Whites have expressed interest in Diogo Dalot, who could be a good long-term acquisition. The full-back has all the qualities and potential to be a replacement for Carvajal. However, the signing won’t be easy for sure.
Manchester United’s new manager Ruben Amorim considers Dalot a vital part of the squad. While he is still evaluating his group, he has made it clear that the 24-year-old needs to stay at the Old Trafford. On the contrary, Real Madrid believe they can lure away the player from the English club for an offer of around £45 million.
