According to a report by Calciomercato, Manchester City have submitted an enquiry for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. The Premier League club see him as an ideal fit at the Etihad Stadium if Ederson leaves the club next summer.
Mike Maignan is an established name
Mike Maignan started his career with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) before moving to Lille. He finally moved to AC Milan in the summer of 2021. Since then, he has emerged as a mainstay in the squad and a notable figure between the sticks.
Maignan featured in 42 games last season in which he managed to keep 15 clean sheets. However, he leaked 52 goals in the process.
The French goalkeeper is considered one of the best when it comes to providing blocks. He commands his area really well and has leadership skills. He steps up on big occasions and his distribution skills are also up to the mark.
Mike Maignan is a good option
Ederson was linked with a move to Saudi all summer but the deal didn’t go through. However, interest from the Middle East might return in the upcoming transfer windows. Hence, Manchester City want to remain prepared for all the cases.
The Citizens’ interest in Mike Maignan is understandable as the club would require a world-class goalie to operate at the goal line. The 29-year-old’s ample experience and the habit of stepping up at the right time would come in handy.
Maignan is also equipped well in his distribution which is an integral part of of goalkeeper. Hence, he would perfectly suit Pep Guardiola‘s system. However, one has to wait and observe what happens with Ederson. Though Manchester City want to keep the Brazilian shot-stopper for a long period, an extraordinary bid from Saudi can change everything at any time.
