Chelsea will lock horns with Newcastle United at St. James’ Park this Wednesday night as they look to secure a good result on the road in the EFL Cup. The Blues managed to earn a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Magpies recently which should keep them in good spirits ahead of their cup meeting in midweek.
Enzo Maresca will set his players up in a 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to name a strong first XI for this clash. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi could play from the start of this game.
4-2-3-1 Chelsea Predicted Lineup To Face Newcastle United
Defence
Filip Jorgensen will feature in between the sticks for the West London club as he hopes to keep a clean sheet away from home. Benoit Badiashile will resume his defensive partnership with Tosin Adarabioyo as they try to maintain a good shape on the defensive third of the pitch.
Axel Disasi will fill in as the right-back while Marc Cucurella hopes to give a good account of himself on the other flank as the left-back. Both of them will have to pick and choose their moments to join in on the attack.
Reece James, Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana will offer cover for the defensive positions on the bench.
Midfield
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Enzo Fernandez will anchor the midfield for Chelsea as they focus on winning the 50-50 battles at the centre of the park. The talented trio of Mykhailo Mudryk, Joao Felix and Jadon Sancho will operate just ahead of them as part of Maresca’s attack. All three of them need to retain possession well in the Newcastle half if they want to engineer some clear-cut chances in the final third.
Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and Romeo Lavia will be rested on the bench and might come on to make an impact in the second half if required.
Attack
Christopher Nkunku will lead the charge for the West London giants up top. He would be eager to impress in this cup game this Wednesday night.
Nicolas Jackson will be named on the bench as he waits for his opportunity to influence the game in the final quarter if Chelsea are in need of a goal by then.
