According to Inter Live, Liverpool are one of the clubs that are interested in signing Lille attacker Jonathan David next summer. The striker will become a free agent at the end of the season and has no plans to sign a new contract with the French side.
Jonathan David is set to leave Lille
Jonathan David started his professional career at Gent and then moved to Lille in the summer of 2020. Since then he has been climbing up the ladders pretty well. He has established himself as the primary striker and positioned himself as one of the best in the league.
David was breathing fire last season in which he scored 26 goals and provided nine assists in 47 games. He averaged 2.3 shots, 0.9 key passes, and 0.4 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored). Interestingly, he has already netted 10 goals in just 15 outings this season.
The Candian striker is well known for his pace and intelligent positioning. He exploits the spaces really well and also links up well with teammates. He is comfortable with both his feet and has clinical finishing abilities, making him an ideal number nine for many sides.
Jonathan David has interest from multiple clubs
While Darwin Nunez has done pretty decent at Liverpool so far, he has certainly fallen down in the pack under Arne Slot. The new boss has preferred Diogo Jota as the primary striker and doesn’t count on the former enough.
Hence, the Reds are interested in signing Jonathan David next summer. The pursuit makes sense as the Lille striker is in red-hot form and has all the equipment to play for a top-tier club. His addition will surely ensure more goals upfront.
Moreover, the 24-year-old will come for free, which makes him an attractive pick for Liverpool. However, they will have to beat multiple clubs in the race. David’s arrival will potentially bring Nunez’s time at Anfield to an end.
