In a recent report, journalist Mark Brus stated that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a January move for Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap. It has been claimed that Spurs are showing interest in recruiting the English striker in the winter transfer window.
Delap’s Impressive Form In The Premier League This Season
Delap has enjoyed a good run of form for Ipswich this season as he has already managed to put in a run of productive displays for them in the final third. The 21-year-old has banged in four goals in nine appearances for the English outfit in the previous campaign across all fronts.
The English talent has led the line well for Ipswich based on his average of 1.8 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he needs to find a way to improve his link-up play on the offensive end of the field, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 57.6% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the English club will run out in the summer of 2029 which could make it difficult for Spurs to land him on the cheap when the transfer window reopens this January.
Is Delap A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Ange Postecoglu?
Delap can find some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third and can make a few clever runs with the ball in and around the opposition penalty box. However, the English striker has to figure out a way to improve his ball distribution in the opponent’s half.
Delap has already gained some valuable experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Tottenham. Standing at 1.86m, he can be a strong presence in the air as well.
We can expect Delap to add more goals to Spurs boss Ange Postecoglu’s frontline. He is good enough to offer some healthy competition for Heung-min Son and Richarlison at the North London club in the coming years.
At 21, the future looks quite bright for Delap as long as he continues to mature as a footballer with each season. With all things considered, he would be an excellent option for Tottenham to consider this winter.
