Manchester City This 42-Year-Old As Pep Guardiola’s Replacement: Perfect Fit?

As per a report published by Daily Mail, Premier League club Manchester City have identified Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso as a viable target for the managerial role as the future around Pep Guardiola remains uncertain.

Pep Guardiola hasn’t decided on his future yet

Pep Guardiola has made Manchester City a force to reckon with since coming to the helm of affairs. The English club has tasted immense success and has become one of the most consistent teams across Europe, expanding its dominance.

However, the Spanish manager is in the final year of his current contract and there is uncertainty over his future at Etihad Stadium. While the Citizens want to keep him for a long period of time, Guardiola might entertain a new challenge after having won all possible trophies.

The Ex-Barcelona coach’s decision will also be influenced by the verdict of the ongoing case on the English giants. As his continuity is not known, Manchester City are exploring options in the market in case they need to bring someone new.

Xabi Alonso is a possibility

Manchester City believe Xabi Alonso could be a fitting replacement for Pep Guardiola. The former has managed to prove his stakes in the managerial department in a short time. His recent success with Bayer Leverkusen is not hidden from anyone.

Alonso led the German side to their historic Bundesliga title and had almost ended the campaign without facing a loss. While he continues to be a part of that club, it wouldn’t be surprising if he fancies a move to the Premier League.

After all, everyone wants to win titles in the English and Spanish leagues. However, everything will depend upon whether Pep will renew his contract or not. Manchester City will certainly wait for the final call before making any concrete move in the market.
