From being in the vicinity of the relegation zone to being one of the sides contesting for the play-off spots, it has been a remarkable turnaround for Derby County. The Rams are unarguably one of the hopefuls for promotion to the top tier, much of which must be fished out for Steve McClaren for being a messiah of sorts.
There are refreshing vibes at the Pride Park Stadium as they sit just a spot below sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday in the league table, with a couple of points separating them.
However, one of the aspects of their game which needs reconsideration is the dearth of attacking flamboyance up front. McClaren’s side have failed to tear up defences on a consistent basis and there is a dire call for injecting an element of flair in their ranks, someone who can change games. In a bid to up their aspirations for bettering their attacking gameplay, Derby County have reportedly seen their offer of £225,000 being accepted by St. Mirren for 18-year-old starlet Kyle McAllister.
McAllister made his debut for the senior side last season, where he mustered 4 appearances. But the ongoing campaign has been much more productive for him, as he has been handed 14 appearances so far. Before teeing up with the Buddies, he evolved from the youth system of the Rangers, prior to progressing under the tutelage of Jack Ross at the Paisley club.
The sensational winger is one of the most skilful and promising young guns to have emerged to the scene from the Scottish Championship and no wonder notable clubs are flocking in to lure him into their ranks.
McAllister can ply his trade on either wing or in the no. 10 slot and has thus enticed flattering glances from the football fraternity. An electric attacker who bombards opponents’ defence, the Scottish starlet is a potential attacking asset whose stocks are piling up with every passing game. By the way, how many of you still remember his thundering strike during St. Mirren’s 5-1 Scottish Cup win over Spartans earlier this season at the Paisley 2021 Stadium?
It would not be a foolish act from the Rams to get hold of a youngster of McAllister’s calibre. He might not be chalked into the starting setup by McClaren immediately, should the signing materialise, but he can come really handy for the remainder of the season to ensure that Derby County do not lose their stronghold.
