According to Inter-Live, Manchester City are keeping tabs on Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco and could make a move to sign him next summer. However, they are likely to face stiff competition from other clubs should they decide the pursue the signing.
Federico Dimarco is the primary choice for Italy and Inter Milan
Federico Dimarco came through the ranks of Inter Milan Academy but failed to establish himself there. After a couple of loan spells, he was finally sold to Sion. However, he returned to the Italian club after just a season and things have changed since then.
The second spell has helped Dimarco prove himself and become a mainstay in the squad. He featured in 40 games last season, netting six goals and providing eight assists. He averaged 1.4 tackles, 0.3 interceptions, and 0.8 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The Italian defender is technically sound and has good strength despite his small stature. He is known for his raw pace and high work rate on the field. He puts good crosses into the box and is also capable of taking set-pieces effectively.
Manchester City doesn’t need Federico Dimarco
Manchester City’s interest in Federico Dimarco is quite surprising considering they don’t need to strengthen the left-back position. They already have Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake for the concerned position and both the players have been doing well.
If the Citizens still decide to go after the Italian left-back, they will have to splash out somewhere near €80 million. It makes no sense for them to start investing that much on a player, who wouldn’t even start every game. Instead, the club can focus on other areas.
As the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Ilkay Gundogan are into the final stages of their career, Manchester City will need notable names to replace them in the midfield. They even need to sign someone who can play second fiddle to Erling Haaland.
