In a recent report, Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) revealed that Everton are monitoring Bologna striker Santiago Castro. It has been stated that the Toffees would have to rival Aston Villa, Chelsea and Arsenal in the race to sign the Argentine centre-forward.
Castro’s Impressive Form In Serie A This Season
The 20-year-old has caught the eye at times with his performances as the focal point of Bologna’s attack during this campaign. Castro has scored three goals and picked up one assist in nine matches for the Italian club this season across various competitions.
The talented forward has led the line well and deserves credit for averaging 2.9 shots, 0.4 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in Serie A football. He has also been accurate when distributing possession in the final third based on his pass success rate of 79.2% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for the Toffees to land him on the cheap next year.
What Will Castro Add To Everton Boss Sean Dyche’s Side?
Castro can find some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can be a streaky goal-getter in the final third and can engineer the odd chance for his teammates on the offensive end of the field. The Argentine forward is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also play as a wide player on either flank if needed.
We can expect Castro to add more firepower to Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s frontline. He has what it takes to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Merseyside club in the coming seasons.
At 20, Castro has the potential to be a future star at Goodison Park as long as he continues to improve with each year. However, only time will tell whether he can handle the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football.
Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting Castro, so Dyche would be wise to step up his efforts to acquire the Argentine striker’s services in this January transfer period or at the end of this campaign.
