In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Real Madrid are hoping to re-sign Napoli defender Rafa Marin. It has been revealed that Los Blancos are eager to bring the Spanish talent back to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium next year.
Marin’s Unimpressive Spell At Napoli So Far
Marin has struggled to earn regular playing time during his time at the Naples-based club. However, he had a solid loan spell at Deportivo Alaves last season when he put in a series of dominant displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 22-year-old made 35 appearances for Alaves in the previous campaign on all fronts.
The Spanish talent was a rock at the back based on his average of 1.0 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 3.9 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He was even excellent when distributing the ball from inside his half after making 82.8% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Napoli will expire in the summer of 2029, so it won’t be easy for Real Madrid to get a deal done for him on the cheap.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Bring Marin Back?
Marin is a tough-tackling defender who can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the offensive and can use his strong 1.91m frame to win his fair share of aerial duels.
The Spanish defensive ace is even proficient at playing his way out from the back. He already knows Real Madrid well from his previous spell with them and won’t take much time to adjust to life in the Spanish capital.
We can expect Marin to add more quality and depth to Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. He is good enough to increase competition for places within the Madrid club‘s squad. At 22, the future is still quite promising for Marin as long as he continues to develop with each season.
Therefore, it makes sense for Los Blancos to try and bring the Spanish central defender back to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium this January or at the end of this campaign.
