In a recent report, Sport mentioned that Barcelona are keeping tabs on Benfica full-back Alvaro Carreras. It has been stated that the Catalan club are eyeing a move to bring the Spanish defender to the Nou Camp next year.
Carreras’ Impressive Form In Portuguese Football
Carreras has proven his worth as a decent performer on the left side of Benfica’s backline during this campaign. The 21-year-old has participated in nine matches for the Portuguese outfit this season across multiple competitions.
The Spanish full-back has been a good performer on the left wing and has done well to average 1.9 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 1.0 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the wide areas based on his pass success rate of 79.8% in the Portuguese first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Portuguese club will expire in the summer of 2029 which could make it difficult for Barcelona to land him on the cheap next year.
Barcelona Are Keeping Tabs On Carreras: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Carreras can create some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes on the offensive end of the field and can make some driving runs with the ball on the left flank.
The Spanish sensation is a good tackler of the ball and can make some important interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when required and is primarily a left-back but can also function as a left-winger if told to do so.
Carreras would add more quality and depth to Barcelona boss Hansi Flick’s defence. He has what it takes to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Nou Camp and would offer some serious competition for Alejandro Balde at the Catalan club.
At 21, Carreras is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future. Thus, Barca should focus on going all out to get a deal over the line for him this January or at the end of this campaign. He has already got some experience in La Liga and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Catalan club.
