In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey stated that Aston Villa are facing stiff competition for Viktoria Plzen playmaker Pavel Sulc. It has been mentioned that the Villans would have to rival Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Napoli, Atalanta, Olympique Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen in pursuit of the talented attacker.
Sulc’s Impressive Rise In Czech Football
Sulc has managed to produce a series of impressive performances for the Czech side during this campaign. The 23-year-old has found the back of the net on six occasions and secured three assists in 16 matches for Viktoria Plzen this season in various competitions.
The Czech sensation has been a decent performer in the final third based on his average of 2.5 shots, 2.0 key passes and 3.0 dribbles per game in the UEFA Europa League. He has also been tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after completing 75.7% of his attempted passes in European football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Czech club will run out in the summer of 2026. Therefore, the Villans could potentially snap him up on a cut-price deal at the end of this campaign.
Aston Villa Are Facing Stiff Competition For Sulc: Is He Worth The Fight?
Sulc can find some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has proven himself to be a decent finisher in the final third and has got the eye to play some decisive passes in and around the opposition penalty box. The Czech talent is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet but is still unproven at the highest level.
However, Sulc would need some time to adapt to the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if the Villans manage to bring him on board next year. We can expect him to bring more firepower to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s frontline.
At 23, Sulc has his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the West Midlands club to pursue next summer. All in all, the Czech attacker would be well worth the fight, so Emery would be wise to step up his chase to land him.
