Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Premier League keeper Paul Robinson revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Torino midfielder Samuele Ricci. It has been claimed that Spurs could move in for the Italian midfield ace next summer.
Ricci’s Impressive Form In Italian Football
Ricci has made a decent start to this campaign as he has put in a few solid displays at the centre of Torino’s midfield. The 23-year-old has picked up one assist in eight matches for his current employers this season across multiple competitions.
The 23-year-old has anchored the midfield well for the Italian club based on his average of 0.8 tackles, 0.5 interceptions and 1.5 clearances per game in Serie A football. He was even been tidy when distributing possession from midfield after making 92.9% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Torino will run out in the summer of 2026 which could open the door for Tottenham to land him on a cut-price deal at the end of this campaign.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Ange Postecoglu Snap Ricci Up?
Ricci is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot. Ricci is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder if needed.
The Italian talent is an accurate passer of the ball as well. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the physical style and high intensity of the Premier League if Tottenham manage to bring him on board next summer.
We can expect Ricci to add more bite and steel to Ange Postecoglu’s midfield. He is good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at the North London club in the coming years.
At 23, the best is yet to come from Ricci, so Postecoglu would be wise to go all out to snap him up at the end of this campaign. He has what it takes to help Spurs to challenge for a top-four spot in the Premier League over the next decade.
