In a recent report, journalist Fraser Gillan claimed that Everton could be tempted to move in for Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron. It has been stated that the Toffees are eyeing a move to bring the Paraguayan talent to Merseyside after failing to land him last summer.
Almiron’s Recent Season At Newcastle
Almiron had an inconsistent campaign at the Tyneside club recently but managed to put in a handful of promising displays for them in the final third. The Paraguay international registered five goals and three assists in 45 matches for Newcastle last season across various competitions.
The 30-year-old managed to prove his worth at times on the right flank by averaging 1.2 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 85.8% in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Almiron is under contract at the Tyneside club until the summer of 2026 which could make it difficult for the Toffees to sign him on a cut-price deal this January or at the end of this season.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Go For Almiron?
Almiron is a good dribbler with the ball and can make a few driving runs with the ball out on the flanks. He has got the vision to create some decent openings for others around him in the final third and can strike the ball with power from long range. The South American talent can contribute by scoring and creating a few important goals for his team. However, he has to find a way to be more consistent in front of the opposition goal.
We can expect Almiron to bring more firepower to Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s attack. He has what it takes to nail down a regular starting spot at Goodison Park in the coming years. Almiron already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Merseyside club.
At 30, the Paraguay international still has a few good years left in him to play at a high level. Thus, it makes sense for Dyche to go for a player of his skill set and experience next year.
