According to Caught Offside, Liverpool have identified Sevilla right-back Juanlu Sanchez as a viable replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold. The latter has been linked to a move away with Real Madrid highly interested in signing him.
The Rise of Juanlu Sanchez
Juanlu Sanchez came through the ranks of Sevilla Academy and had to prove himself at all stages to climb up the ladders. He made his first team debut in 2021 but it took some time before he could establish himself as the primary right-back.
After returning from a loan spell, Sanchez was retained by Sevilla last season. He featured in 37 games, netting once and assisting four. He averaged 2.2 tackles, 0.4 interceptions, and 1 clearance per game (stats via whoscored).
The Spanish can play as a right-back, midfielder or even as a right winger. He is excellent when it comes to tackling, ball interceptions, and aerial presence. He is also comfortable on the ball, possesses dribbling skills, and can shoot from a long range.
All eyes are on Trent Alexander-Arnold
Liverpool are sweating over the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is in the final year of his contract. Though the player has hinted that he wants to stay at the club, the increasing interest from Real Madrid can change the game at any time.
Hence, the Reds want to remain prepared for all the situations. They have reportedly identified Juanlu Sanchez as one of the possible names that could be signed to fill the English defender’s shoes. As the 21-year-old plays in the same position and has similar qualities, his signing could be a good move.
Though Sanchez doesn’t have similar numbers in the offensive contributions as Trent, he is surely better when it comes to defending. With time, the Spanish can develop his game further and become even better. Sevilla will be happy to sell him for €25 million if the player fails to commit to at long future at the Spanish side.
