In a recent report, Sport Bild (via Sport Witness) mentioned that Arsenal are keeping tabs on Bayer 04 Leverkusen talent Florian Wirtz. It has been claimed that the Gunners are monitoring the progress of the German attacker ahead of a potential move for him in the future.
Wirtz’s Impressive Form In German Football
The 21-year-old has made a great start to this Bundesliga campaign as he has put in a handful of impressive performances for Leverkusen in the final third. Wirtz has found the back of the net six times and secured one assist in seven matches for the German club this season across various competitions.
The German playmaker has been a reliable performer in the opposition half and deserves credit for averaging 4.0 shots, 4.0 key passes and 3.3 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball after making 83.4% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for the Gunners to snap him up on a cut-price deal next year.
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Go For Wirtz?
Wirtz is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with the ball in the final third. He can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the opposition half. Wirtz has done well to prove himself to be a consistent goal-getter for Leverkusen this season.
The German sensation is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also play as a winger on either flank if told to do so by his manager. However, he might need some time to adjust to the physical style and high intensity of the Premier League if Arsenal manage to sign him next year.
We can expect Wirtz to inject more quality and depth into Mikel Arteta‘s attack. He is good enough to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Emirates Stadium in the coming years.
At 21, Wirtz has the potential to be a generational talent, so the Gunners would be wise to go for a player of his quality and potential in 2025.
