Jordan Rhodes has been under a lot of speculation ever since the January transfer window kicked in. The top quality sides in the Championship are pursuing the Middlesbrough forward, but time and again, the talks have stalled due to one reason or the other. One of the latest reports to have surfaced recently is that of Sheffield Wednesday being in hot pursuit to rope this high calibre player into their ranks before the curtains fall to bring an end to the transaction and transfer process.
The Owls are right in pretty much in the scheme of things as far as the play-off spots are concerned, which is a penultimate gateway to the top tier of English football. They are placed sixth on the league table and a couple of points above Derby County who are seventh at the moment. Considering the likelihood of an intense end to the season, Carlos Carvalhal needs right and adequate men in his kit and has thus turned his attention to lure Rhodes to the Hillsborough.
The 26-year-old was signed from Blackburn in the winter transfer window but hasn’t quite lived up to the bills. Under the tutelage of Aitor Karanka, Rhodes hasn’t had a major say in any of the games and his stature has been reduced to that of a serial outcast.
He has been handed merely six league appearances so far this term, during which he hasn’t contributed anything substantial. However, a few Championship teams have flocked it to sign but the Smoggies have set their price as high as £12 million which is bound to make the buying side rethink as to whether he is actually worth it or not.
Sheffield Wednesday sniffing Rhodes makes perfect sense, to be honest. He had been a prolific goal getter for his prior employers, i.e., Brentford, Huddersfield Town and Blackburn Rovers but failed to replicate the same ever since his move to the Riverside Stadium. It has to be noted that he is a sensational striker in the Championship and owing to his excellent track record, Sheffield Wednesday have jogged forward to the scene.
With the experience he has under his belt, investing a considerable on Rhodes would be a safe bet. Though the price tagged around his collar is slightly on the higher side, but one must also take into effect the inflation which generally exists in this transfer market. The Scottish international will be relied upon hugely should the Owls successfully get hold of him.
