In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey revealed that Real Madrid have identified Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite as a target. It has been claimed that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to bring the English talent to the Spanish capital next year.
Branthwaite’s Impressive Form In The Premier League Last Season
Brathwaite had a solid campaign at the Merseyside club as he put in a string of impressive displays for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The 22-year-old participated in 41 matches for the Toffees last season, scoring three times and earning one assist on all fronts.
The Carlisle-born sensation was a dominant presence when defending inside his half and did well to average 1.9 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 4.5 clearances per game in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from the back after making 80.1% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Everton will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for Real Madrid to sign him on the cheap next year.
What Will Branthwaite Bring To Real Madrid?
Branthwaite is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and excels at playing his way out from the back.
The English defensive ace can use his strong 1.95m frame to win his fair share of 50-50 duels in the air. Hence, he would be a good fit for Real Madrid‘s brand of football, so Carlo Ancelotti would be wise to move in for him this January or at the end of this campaign.
We can expect Branthwaite to bring more bite and steel to the Madrid club‘s defence. He has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. At 22, the future looks quite bright for Branthwaite as long as he continues to improve with each season. Thus, Los Blancos should focus on getting a deal over the line for him next year. However, only time will tell whether the English centre-back can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga.
