According to Fichajes, Manchester City are eyeing Celtic attacker Kyogo Furuhashi as Julian Alvarez’s replacement. The Argentine had left the English champions before this season due to lack of game-time and went on to join Atletico Madrid.
Kyogo Furuhashi is Celtic’s hero
Kyogo Furuhashi joined Celtic in the summer of 2021 from Vissel Kobe. He took some time to establish himself there. But once he managed to impress everyone, he kept on climbing the ladders and emerged as the first-choice striker.
Furuhashi has been a pivotal figure for the Scottish side over the past few seasons. Last season, he netted 19 goals and provided five assists in 50 appearances. He averaged 2.7 shots, 0.6 key passes, and 0.3 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Japanese striker is known for his aggressive pressing and high work rate. He often makes in behind runs and continuously tests the opposition’s defence. He is also equipped well with long-range shots and holding onto the ball.
Kyogo Furuhashi is a valuable pick
Manchester City didn’t sign any direct replacement for Julian Alvarez in the summer window. However, they understand the importance of having a backup striker for Erling Haaland, who has been playing restlessly so far.
For the second fiddle role, the Citizens have identified Kyogo Furuhashi. He certainly has experience and qualities to play in the Premier League. On top of that, his intelligent pressing will be useful in Pep Guardiola’s system.
From the player’s point of view, joining Manchester City will be a lucrative choice. However, he will have to accept that he might not get enough game time. He will be used only when either Haaland gets a rest or remains sidelined due to any injury.
More developments will come on this story as the season progresses. If the English giant finds any other alternative, who knows they might change their mind.
